Legalism

Have we inherited a false definition of legalism? When Abba says to His people: "I want to bless you with long life and health, therefore do this" --and they honor that Word, is it legalism, or wisdom and reciprocal love to obey? (Read Psalm 119 with this in mind) For the commandment is a lamp ; and the law is light ; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life : Proverbs 6:23 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 1 John 5:3 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it. 2 John 1:6 Test this: what was the leaven of the Pharisees? Wasn't it legalism?       "Now the Pharisees and some of the Torah scholars who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Yeshua. And they saw that some of His disciples were eating bread with unclean hands, that is, not washed. (For the Pharisees and all Jewish people do not eat u...

yada

Yesterday, The Word nourished me deeply by rendering several things that I've been ruminating! Many streams of hearing The Word keep repeating one Word: know I was encouraged by a faithful teacher to simply read the Torah. Every king in ancient Israel was commanded to make their own copy, that they would learn to fear YHWH . As I began in Genesis yesterday, it came to my mind that Abram knew  YHWH, he was familiar with Him already, so he approached Him by name when he approached the three men!  Yesterday, as Drew left for work, he reminded our daughter to care for one of our ewes that seems to be ailing somewhat. The day was full of excitement, and so it was, that it was late afternoon when I asked if she had completed her father's instruction. She said "no, I forgot". I related it to The Word, how we can make excuses about life being busy and full, and we forget to obey our Father. In fact, this Word I'm sharing is one such thing--Satan is biting at my heels as w...

opt-out to opt-in

'However, the solid foundation of Elohim stands firm, having this seal, “יהוה knows those who are His,” and, let everyone who names the Name of Messiah turn away from unrighteousness. But in a large house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some unto value and some unto no value.' 'If, then, anyone cleanses himself from these matters , he shall be a vessel unto value, having been set apart, of good use to the Master, having been prepared for every good work.' Timotiyos Bĕt (2 Timothy) 2:19-21  Our community of families gathering to read The Word on Shabbat just passed through Acts 15. In it, the elders decided on four simple "rules", countering the demands of the "circumcision faction".  These had to do with spiritual uncleanness, brought straight out of the Torah: 1) idolatry 2) sexual impurity 3) eating strangled animals 4) blood These were about abstinence.  To stop  doing particular things that were as everyd...

Chametz

khorasan matzah We’ve just finished out the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and I’ve been ruminating The Word given in that time over the last week. He is The Master of experiential training, and I do believe the more times we lay down ourselves and come INTO His Kingdom for His things (“Bible things in Bible ways”), we find deeper and more filling reasons to DO SO! Why would he give us meaningless, vain traditions meant to be undone? He wouldn’t.  Here’s what I was hearing as we cleaned up the home for the 1st day of Unleavened Bread (the day after Passover): it’s not about the toaster crumbs or the crusts under the fridge. Yes, those require a great deal of intention to address and eliminate (as does pride!). But I was hearing something different this year. How perfect, that He would stage a return of actual chametz into the home of an average person so that we might come into an understanding of this Feast, even as we come to realize that HE is the meaning of them all?! Grocery store...

chaff & riffraff

Riffraff: "sweepings, refuse, things of small value" (mid-14c.), from Old French rif et raf, from rifler "to spoil, strip" (see rifle (v.)). Second element from raffler "carry off," related to rafle "plundering," or from raffer "to snatch, to sweep together" (from etymonline)  Why do you weigh out silver for what is not bread, and your labour for what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to Me, and eat what is good, and let your being delight itself in fatness. Isaiah 55:2 Growing up religious, we seemed to try to do everything "against the grain". I remember a science curriculum (Christian) that came with a CD of mediocre music, and one of the songs went like this: "If everybody does it, we don't. If everybody has it, we won't. If everybody's going, we'll go the other way. If everybody does it, we don't." (Ironically, "against the grain" is literally what everyone does now.) Kind of silly, ...

Power and Protection

This morning, as I thanked  יהוה ‎  for His perfect knowledge and order in knitting together the new person within my womb a scripture from Proverbs came to mind: “The Lord by wisdom founded the earth, By understanding He established the heavens.”  Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭19‬  Then this morning, the Spirit took me to Jeremiah, & I heard this echo:  “It is He who made the earth by His power, Who established the world by His wisdom; And by His understanding He has stretched out the heavens.”  Jeremiah‬ ‭10‬:‭12‬ ‭‬ As the only One competent and capable of creating the heavens and the earth, designed the human body in its completeness and all life and symbiotic relationships between every living thing, isn’t it preposterous to believe that He should need our supervision ensuring His work is good?  ““Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker— An earthenware vessel among the vessels of earth! Will the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you doing?’ Or the ...

Deceiving Spirits

How do we go about discerning between The Spirit and a deceiving spirit? The Word makes it clear that demonic spirits impersonate the Holy Spirit. For such are false emissaries, deceptive workers, masquerading as emissaries of Messiah. And no wonder! For Satan himself masquerades as a messenger of light! It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness, whose end shall be according to their works! 2 Cor 11:13-15 TS2009  I was taken by the Holy Spirit to Ezekiel 14 this morning. The words there rather left me speechless.  And some of the elders of Yisra’ĕl came to me and sat before me. And the word of יהוה came to me, saying, “Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts, and have put the stumbling-block of their crookedness before their face. Should I let them inquire of Me at all? Ezekiel 14:1-3 These elders are respected men. They are coming to a known prophet of YHVH. They sit down and wait for him to speak. A...
